10 Ways to Reduce Stress While at Work
EAP Navigator
If your workload has you feeling stressed, try one of these 10 proven relaxation methods below to blow off some steam in a healthy way:
Concentrate on your breath. Close your eyes and start breathing deeply and slowly. Let the breath out for a count of five. Repeat this practice ten times.
Stretch the stress away. Raise your arms above your head, then reach out to the right side of the room for 4 counts, and then to the left side of the room for 4 counts.
Walk it off. Take a walk at lunch or during a break and get some fresh air.
Eat a healthy snack. Keep fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole–grain foods on hand as they contain stress–busting B and C vitamins.
Drink healthy liquids. Switch your regular coffee drink for herbal tea or water.
Talk to your coworkers. While on break, chat with colleagues about hobbies and activities outside of work.
Imagine a peaceful place. Close your eyes and think of yourself resting on a beach, in a meadow, or somewhere else you find relaxing.
Break time. Take a break from your work and think about your life outside of your job. Think about something enjoyable you will do when you get home.
Complete something you've been putting off. Notice how good you feel having completed it.
Adjust your posture. When seated, place your feet flat on the floor, lower back supported against the chair, relax your shoulders, while keeping your chest up and your chin parallel with the floor. Take a few deep breaths through this posture.
